A Note from The AJLI Board:
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Dr. Martin Kalmanson, our friend, our mentor, the former President and driving force behind the American Jewish League for Israel (AJLI).
A steadfast supporter of Israel, Dr. Kalmanson poured his talents, energy, time and love into the AJLI, helping build bridges between American Jews and the State of Israel. During his long tenure as the President of the AJLI, Dr. Kalmanson built a University Scholarship Program that awards qualified U.S. students with scholarships to study at one of Israel's universities, with the hopes of inspiring a new generation of college and graduate students to experience Israel first-hand and develop their own unique bonds with the State of Israel.
As current board members and prior beneficiaries of the University Scholarship Program, we owe Dr. Kalmanson a great debt - - as he not only facilitated our studies in Israel and helped foster our relationship with Israel and the Jewish community, but also made the effort to establish a warm, thoughtful and caring relationship with each one of us.
It is through Dr. Kalmanson's vision and hard work, and those friends, supporters and admirers of his, that we at the AJLI have the necessary resources to continue the University Scholarship Program for many years to come. Let this be one of his many legacies.
We thank you, Marty, and will miss your wisdom and friendship. May your memory be for a blessing.
Amy, Jonathan, Rosebud and Tehilah
The American Jewish League for Israel was organized in 1957 by men and women of the highest standing in American Jewish life to support the people and the State of Israel. Their philosophy, which still guides us today, is that as American Jews we need to come together regardless of political, ideological, or religious beliefs, to work for the cause that we all share - support for the State of Israel. It is independent and dedicated to keeping its members informed and involved. The American Jewish League for Israel is not connected to any political party in Israel.
Our unique University Scholarship program awards qualified American students with partial scholarship grants toward a year of study at one of Israel's prestigious Universities. The purpose of the program is to foster Jewish spiritual and cultural values through the experience of living and studying in Israel and, at the same time, strengthen the ties that bind Jews in the United States to Jews in Israel so that upon returning to the United States, scholarship winners will be better able to communicate those ties to American Jewry. Applications are available by clicking here.
Contributors receive our e-mails with up-to-date information on rapidly developing events and how they affect Israel and the Jewish world. Contributors are also eligible to receive a reduced subscription rate to MIDSTREAM magazine, the finest review on Israel and matters of Jewish interest published today in this country. New contributors receive a free one-year subscription to MIDSTREAM.
An endowment fund has been established where all contributions are retained and prudently invested. Income is withdrawn and awarded to qualified students annually as scholarships. As gifts are added to the Fund, income grows annually.
